Between Lake Zurich and Europe: the ZHAW’s sustainability networks

Sustainable development is a societal responsibility that no university can fulfil alone. For this reason, the ZHAW actively seeks to build partnerships that extend its reach beyond its own campuses – from regional knowledge hubs to European alliances. Five examples at a glance: What does the ZHAW contribute, and what does it gain in return?

The ZHAW sees sustainability as a mandate to transform society. Such a mandate can only be achieved in collaboration with other institutions. For this reason, the ZHAW is actively involved in networks and collaborative organisations that range from cantonal collaboration platforms to European university alliances. Some of these partnerships bring together research and teaching across university boundaries, while others foster dialogue with business and policymakers or provide access to international programmes. Five of these partnerships illustrate how sustainability can be advanced through collaboration.

“Each of these partnerships brings us perspectives, contacts and new ideas that would take much longer to develop on our own. This exchange makes us more effective as a university as a whole in advancing sustainable transformation.”
