Social sustainability and diversity

In the area of social sustainability, the ZHAW collects data on workload levels, gender diversity and shared leadership arrangements. The data collected provides an insight, but does not present a comprehensive picture of the situation at the ZHAW.

A gender-inclusive leadership culture

Equal participation of all genders at every level is a core value at the ZHAW. Through targeted measures such as flexible working and leadership models, as well as mentoring programmes, the ZHAW is committed to achieving more balanced gender representation.

Flexible leadership and working models

Shared leadership arrangements and part-time employment are key tools used by the ZHAW to make leadership and work more flexible and to improve the compatibility of private and professional life. More than half of employees work part-time, and the proportion of shared leadership arrangements has also risen steadily in recent years. In 2025, shared leadership arrangements reached a record high of 14.5%.
